2025 Canadian Meetings + Events Expo

In August 2025, MP Rechie Valdez, Canada’s Secretary of State for Tourism, MP Chi Nguyen (Spadina—Harbourfront), and MPP Stan Cho, Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming participated in guided tours of the 2025 edition of the Canadian Meetings + Events Expo (CMEE).

Their visits were part of Business Events in Action, MMBC’s new national initiative designed to give Parliamentarians a first-hand look at the powerful economic and social impacts of business events.

During her visit, Minister Valdez met privately with MMBC Chair Minto Schneider, Newcom Media president Joe Glionna, as well as Kathy Haley, CEO, and Ron Pellerine, COO of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Minister Valdez also addressed attendees, highlighting both the tremendous value of the business events sector and the success of the International Convention Attraction Fund (ICAF), a Destination Canada program that helps Canadian destinations compete globally to host major international events.

During the visit, the three Parliamentarians toured the CMEE show floor, where they engaged with several exhibitors, including MMBC members. Conversations focused on regional developments in the business events sector and reinforced how critical ICAF has become to Canada’s competitiveness and success on the international stage.
